Join us at SJC West in Kirtland for a fun filled week of STEM activities. Ignite imagination in a high-energy, immersive environment that blurs the lines between learning and fun in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Explore via hands-on creative problem solving activities where campers are inspired to be curious about their world and are prepared for the future. Each week will be taught by a teacher with STEM core competencies in mind in order to supplement and reinforce school curriculum. The camp will run for one week at a time for three weeks. Students who enroll for this FREE opportunity must commit to the whole week. Breakfast and lunch provided. The same content will be provided each week; please enroll for one week only.

Leave the muggle world and find your way through the “castle” to herbology, defense against the dark arts, care of magical creatures and much more. Enter one of the four houses and compete for the House and Quidditch cups. $7 supply fee payable to instructor at the first class. (20 max)

Shoot, shoot . . . score! Enjoy a fun-filled week of games, shots and dribbling. Learn to shoot and dribble with both left and right hands. Improve your skills in lay-ups, free throws and 3-point shooting. Learn the positions, put your skills together on a team—and score! Bring water and wear nonmarking athletic shoes. (20 max)

DEVON LAPAHIE has taught credit basketball at San Juan College and coached in Aztec, and he currently coaches the basketball team at Bloomfield High School.

Enter world of textures and colors to create unique and visually stunning artworks. From fabric dyeing techniques and pillow making to spool knitting, tying knots and weaving, learn fiber art techniques. Foster a love of artistic expression through multi-layered, tactile lessons. $15 fee payable to instructor at the first class. SERAFINA BITAH has been an educator for 21 years.  She received her BS and MA in Education from the University of New Mexico. She teaches art to young learners in the Farmington area and is excited to join Kids Kollege this year.

Hispanic traditions taste so good! Biscochitos, empanadas, gelatina, bolis, tres leches cake, and flan— your learning will come to life not just from the oven but also through Spanish vocabulary and learning Mexican games while you wait. $20 supply feepayable to instructor at the first class. YARELY QUINTANA returns for a third year of sharing her culinary traditions at Kids Kollege.

Achieve new heights on the 6,000 square foot wall at San Juan College’s Health and Human Performance Center. Climbing offers a new perspective as you explore routes specifically designed for kids and learn how to boulder (bouldering is a style of rock climbing that is done close to the ground without ropes or harnesses and focuses on technique and control). Build confidence as you learn safety, basic knots and team building skills with activities and games. Wear comfortable clothing and athletic/tennis shoes. Cost includes all necessary equipment, and class cost covers staffing to ensure a 1:6 staff to-student ratio for safety purposes. (12 max)

It’s your week to play for the first time. This class assumes no previous experience in playing or music reading abilities. Put your hands to the keys in a group setting for beginning lessons, as well as listening to modern pianists, note reading, and learning history of composers and performers. All students need to be able to read letters, numbers and simple sentences. Keyboards provided. $10 supply fee payable to instructor at the first class. (10 max)

MEGAN JACK loves seeing students enjoy piano lessons and teaches privately.

Combine the challenge of golf with the fun of frisbees, and you have Disc Golf! Disc golf is played much like ball golf but with discs that come in different molds that make a putter, mid-range, fairway driver, and distance drivers. Play begins with throwing from a tee box and completion into a basket. The number of throws it takes to complete the hole is the score for that hole. Learn the fundamentals of throwing discs and gain an understanding of how disc golf is played with rules provided from the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA). All equipment provided, but bring your own discs if you have them; bring water, a hat and sunscreen. (14 max)
