Turn everyday treasures into one-of-a-kind works of art in out junk journaling class! In this hands-on workshop, kids will learn how to create their own journals using recycled materials like magazine cutouts, old postcards, fabric scraps, buttons, and more! They’ll explore the art of collage, mixed media, and storytelling by combining these “junk” items into creative pages that tell unique stories. $15 supply fee payable to instructor at the first class. (20 max)

Piano from the Very Beginning (ages 6-15)

It’s your week to play for the first time. This class assumes no previous experience in playing or music reading abilities. Put your hands to the keys in a group setting for beginning lessons, as well as listening to modern pianists, note reading, and learning history of composers and performers. All students need to be able to read letters, numbers and simple sentences. Keyboards provided. $10 supply fee payable to instructor at the first class. (10 max)

Pickleball Basics (ages 9-15)

Have you ever heard of Pickleball? Learn the rules, how to score, and get started with this popular game. Pickleball is a game with a paddle, whiffle ball and a tennis-high net played on a court smaller than tennis. Closed-toe tennis shoes required, wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. Paddles will be included but we encourage you to bring one if you have one. (12 max)

Safe Sitter® (ages 11-14)

The Safe Sitter® curriculum is designed exclusively for young teens in grades 6-8 (students must be 11), and covers the following areas: safety skills, childcare skills, first aid and rescue skills, and life and business skills. Safe Sitter® courses are instructor-led and interactive, with handson demonstrations and skills practice using soft-bodied dolls and medical manikins. Class fee includes The Official Safe Sitter® Babysitter’s Handbook and completioncard. Parents, plan to attend the last 15minutes for graduation and important information to keep your student safe. Bring a sack lunch, and students will have a half-hour supervised lunch. 7 hrs.

SESSION 2: Forensic Science and Mysteries

Have you ever wanted to solve mysteries or be a detective like a member of a CSI team or Sherlock Holmes? Come solve mysteries using logic and forensic science! With the discovery of DNA by Watson, Crick, and Rosalind Franklin in the 1950s, scientists began to develop the methods that made modern forensic science possible.

Young Climbers (ages 4-6)

Climb on—at a young age—onthe 6,000 square foot wall at SanJuan College’s Health and HumanPerformance Center. Learn how to climb and boulder (bouldering is a style of rock climbing that is done close to the ground without ropes or harnesses and focuses on technique and control). Wear comfortable clothing and athletic/tennis shoes. Cost includes all necessary equipment, and class cost covers staffing to ensure a 1:6 staff to-student ratio for safety purposes. (10 max)

Geology Rocks! (ages 6-8)

Love rocks? Of course you do! Explore the mysteries of rocks, gems, and minerals as well as the fun side of rocks as you simulate volcanos, grow crystals and learn how to identify minerals. We’ll take a field trip across campus to the School of Energy one day during class. $7 supply fee payable to instructor at the first class. (16 max)
